Exciting new Japanese charcoal-grilled skewer restaurant opening in Vancouver

Things are heating up in the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­restaurant scene!

Sumibiyaki Arashi is the name of a new restaurant opening in Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­specializing in Japanese charcoal-grilled skewers.

Vancouver's restaurant scene is always pretty hot, but soon we can add the heat from charcoal grills for an exciting upcoming opening: .

The new restaurant comes from Chef Pete Ho, and will focus on Japanese charcoal-grilled dishes. 

Sumibiyaki Arashi has taken up residence at 363 E Broadway, which was previously home to the Korean fried chicken spot Donky Chicken

Speaking of chicken, one of Ho's favoured ingredients to work with is the chicken and many of its parts; chicken features prominently in Sumibiyaki Arashi's Instagram feed, which debuted over the summer, and shows a number of yakitori (skewered and grilled chicken) dishes Ho has been perfecting, along with other tempting items like grilled veggies, seafood, and meats. 

Ho has been popping up with his Sumibiyaki Arashi concept for several months now; most recently he did an event at Caffe La Tana with Chef Phil Scarfone, who heads up the culinary ops for La Tana, Pepino's, and Savio Volpe (and the forthcoming Elio Volpe). 

"Originally cooking in French cuisine, Pete migrated to Japanese cuisine after a working holiday at La Rochelle in Tokyo. His passion and love for charcoal cooking stemmed from stints at Nihonoryori Ryugin, and training at renowned yakitori houses like Torishiki and Torisaki Kyoto," explains a bio shared by , a San Francisco restaurant with which Ho did a summer pop-up event before they closed down at the end of September.
