Day 6 of the Local Food Challenge

After noticing on Twitter that Burdock & Co. was offering Local Food Challenge friendly meals, I made it a priority to make dinner plans there.

After noticing on that was offering Local Food Challenge friendly meals, I made it a priority to make dinner plans there. I had been once before and was seriously impressed, and because their menu is seasonal hardly any of the items I had tasted before were on the menu this time. Chef Andrea Carlson of , is at the helm of this restaurant dedicated to serving the highest quality ingredients from local suppliers.

Let's just get right into it. The plates are meant to be shared and the recommendation is three plates among two people, although some of the dishes are a little heartier. My friend and I decided on three and first up was a tomato carpaccio:

In my experience, the more colourful the meal the more tasty it is. I'm pretty confident these photos will speak for themselves as to how delicious these meals were. Next up was the fried chicken with lime mayo, pickled vegetables, and charred chili vinegar. While all portions of the dinner were in a whole other level of fantastic, this was the agreed upon favourite.

We also indulged in a seared halibut accompanied by a tomato gazpacho and smoky eggplant puree. The last time I was here I also had the seared halibut but with different accompaniments, so while certain features of the menu are consistent the seasonal items adjust making it an refreshing new experience every time you come in.

We may have been full but that didn't stop us from getting dessert. We decided on the stone fruit pie with apricots topped with browned butter ice cream (which is made in house).

This to me was a perfect meal. Burdock & Co. is currently one of 35 nominees in Air Canada's Best New Restaurants 2013. I just cast my for them, and I suggest you visit them for dinner and experience for yourself why they're deserving.

On a sidenote, I just want to extend an enormous thank you to everyone who supported my fundraiser. I managed to meet and exceed my goal of raising $500 for . You are all amazing.

Stay tuned tomorrow for  a recap of my last day of the Local Food Challenge!
