The last couple of weeks of October proved bittersweet for the owner of the West End's .
The family-run restaurant has now ceased operations at 1235 Davie St. The business was established in Davie Village in 2017, and specialized in South Indian Masala dosas.
Dosas are thin, crispy pancakes, made from a batter of fermented ground lentils and rice. The staple South Indian food is tremendously adaptable and can be enjoyed in various shapes, including the traditional rolled, with several kinds of fillings - though they can be enjoyed on their own, particularly as a snack or for breakfast.
One of the rare 麻豆传媒映画restaurants open 24/7, the Davie Dosa Company's menu centred on the dosa, of course, available in vegan, vegetarian, and omnivore options. The restaurant also served breakfast, curries, Indo-Chinese fare, biriyani (rice), and a few Western-style items (like Caesar salad) along with desserts and cocktails.
In mid-October, the Davie Dosa Company that the restaurant team was enjoying a "farewell Thanksgiving" at the restaurant, expressing deep gratitude to its customers and the community at large for their support.
"Now this is not our choice to say goodbye," the post continues, adding the business has been "forced to" leave the location.
In an email sent to V.I.A. on October 31, Davie Dosa's owner, Sharv Ramachandran, indicated the business was now "officially closed for no reason."
He also alleges there has been ongoing conflict with the landlord regarding the space and finances.
In July, Ramachandran told V.I.A. the lease was up in October and that the landlord was not seeking a renewal.
It appears the plan remains to seek a new location to revive the Davie Dosa Company.
