Pour one out for your buddy . The sports-centric bar-restaurant and nightclub in the iconic Woodwards development in Gastown called it quits recently after a decade.

"We want to thank all of our staff, and loyal regulars, for their support over the years - making The Charles Bar Gastown’s go-to destination for food, drinks, sports and music," shared the Blueprint venue in announcing their closure.

In addition to being a well-known spot for drinks and watching the game, The Charles Bar offered brunch service, a full menu, and a nightclub setting later in the evening for the partiers.

However, loyal fans of The Charles Bar can take heart that the 136 W Cordova address will have a new tenant very soon. Signage has already gone up indicating that Granville Street's is going in.

Currently operating at 1224 Granville St, in a space that's had a lot of turnover in the last few years, The GPO is a bar-restaurant with an Irish-ish motif. They launched only just this past July, and that until the end of March will be operating with a limited menu for limited hours as they wind things down where they are.

"GPO Bar + Kitchen is not a Cocktail Bar, Gastropub, Irish Bar, or Brewpub, though we do have elements of all the above. We aim to make great food and drink more approachable & less pretentious, in a fun & relaxed environment," reads their Facebook "about" section.

Among the fun GPO patrons have come to know and enjoy at the bar/restaurant are things like trivia nights, in-house games, and live music. Their last day on the Granville Strip is March 29.
