Watch: Epic burgers and boozy milkshakes hit the dinner menu at a beloved East Van breakfast spot

One of Vancouver's best burgers is back and it brought some friends

It's been a long time coming. No, I don't mean Taylor Swift bringing her Eras Tour to Vancouver. I'm talking about bringing back dinner service and more than doubling down on its menu of epic burgers.

Beloved for its fluffy pancakes, pulled pork, and other plate-filling breakfast dishes, The Red Wagon first offered dinner back in 2021, when owner Brad Miller was looking for a way to offer diners more options while embracing his own savvy at French-style fare. I fell in love with his decadent Bistro Burger back then, with its super thick patty, onion jam, and melty Gruyère.

The Bistro Burger was a nod to Miller's Bistro Wagon Rouge, which closed in 2019, ahead of The Red Wagon's move to a bigger space than its original home on Hastings Street.

Now, not only is the Bistro Burger back (hooray!) but it has some friends. And by friends I mean a stellar line-up of burgers, including a Bacon Cheeseburger, the Fried Pickle Burger, and a smashburger.

Besides the smashburger, The Red Wagon's burgers are built on a thick and juicy beef patty that holds its own against the toppings. When it comes to the Fried Pickle Burger, that means you can still appreciate the grind, cook, and flavour of the meat along with the two huge fried tangy pickle spears, cheese, shredded lettuce, and a bit of ranch dressing.

In addition to burgers, The Red Wagon's new dinner menu features shareables like a creamy smoked salmon and dill pickle dip with thick-cut house-made potato chips or taquitos, made with the restaurant's own chorizo and served with house-made queso and green salsa for dunking.

To pair, a new roster of spiked milkshakes, like a vanilla shake with chocolate drizzle and Bailey's or a Piña Colada-inspired option. Of course, you can opt for your milkshake to be blended booze-free.

There are also some more sandwiches and salads, hearty mains (like meatloaf) and a couple of breakfast dishes to round out this fantastic bistro-meets-diner dinner menu.

The Red Wagon is located at 2128 E Hastings St and dinner is served from 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.
