Absinthe, has always had a mysterious allure. Absinthe was the "it drink" in the early nineteenth century where it was associated with famous writers including Ernest Hemingway and Oscar Wilde before becoming banned in most of Europe and the United States due to rumours that it contained hallucinogenic properties. (Absinthe remained banned well into the 20th century in most of Europe and only became legal in 2007 in the United States.) In 2007, Okanagan Spirits created Canada's first genuine absinthe using traditional distilling methods along with the original nineteenth century recipe. Okanagan Spirits recommends serving Taboo absinthe with two parts ice cold water and one part absinthe which also causes the natural green colour to become cloudy, a perfect Halloween cocktail.
