Marcus Tam will compete in the newest season of the "Great Canadian Baking Show."

One of Vancouver's top amateur bakers is testing his oven awareness against nine other Canadians.

Marcus Tam, a local tax manager, is participating in CBC's Great Canadian Baking Show, which starts airing in October. He's one of two people from B.C. competing on the show this year.

In his bio on CBC, Tam describes his five-year journey from his first (failed) attempt to make choux pastry to his signature pecan tarts.

"Some people might have decided not to bake but my head was all fireworks trying to troubleshoot what had gone wrong," he says in the bio. "After several tries, I was finally able to get the choux pastry to rise and expand into that nice beautiful round ball."

On Instagram, Tam shared his excitement about joining this year's competition, the show's eighth season.

"This has been one sugar-filled, sugar-fuelled, sugar-fun experience," .

Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»bakers have seen some success on the show; notably, Andrei Godoroja won season two and the most recent Great Canadian Holiday Baking Show.

However, the last two seasons haven't seen anyone from the region compete in the show., though last year's winner, Loïc Fauteux-Goulet, was from Creston, B.C.
