A new comedy starring Ashley Park and Oscar nominee Stephanie Hsu, and produced by Seth Rogen was filmed in Vancouver.
The red-band trailer for the raunchy film Joy Ride was released Friday, March 17, ahead of its premiere at the (SXSW) film festival tonight.
The movie follows four unlikely friends on an international adventure after Audrey's (Ashley Park) business trip to Asia goes sideways. Audrey must rely on her childhood best friend, Lolo (Sherry Cola), her college friend turned Chinese soap star, Kat (Stephanie Hsu), and Lolo's eccentric cousin Deadeye (Sabrina Wu). The film tells a wild story of friendship, and belonging, and reveals the universal truth of what it means to know and love who you are.
During the movie, Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»viewers may recognize a popular Chinatown attraction. While the movie was filmed around B.C., the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden stands out on screen.
While it doesn't appear in the trailer, the film was the reason a now infamous slide was temporarily erected in Metro Vancouver.
The movie was written by Cherry Chevapravatdumrong and Teresa Hsiao, directed by Crazy Rich Asians and Raya and the Last Dragon screenwriter Adele Lim, and produced by Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Josh Fagen, and Vancouver's own Seth Rogen.
Joy Ride is set to release in theatres on June 23, 2023.
