Free summer concert series returns to iconic Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»waterfront

One of Metro Vancouver's most popular waterfront areas will host several free concerts this summer.

The TD Concerts at the Pier event returns to White Rock starting this July with five shows scheduled on Thursdays through the end of August.

Organizers say guests should plan to arrive around 6 p.m. to give themselves time to find a good spot, set up a chair, and enjoy the atmosphere.

This year's lineup includes popular acts like the Canadian group Men Without Hats, who created the cult-classic song, "Safety Dance," as well as Colin James, a multi-platinum-selling artist with eight Juno awards under his belt.

Lee Aaron, who is considered "Canada’s Metal Queen," will kick off the concert series on July 6 at Memorial Park.

“The lineup for this year’s series is the best one yet! With national touring superstars, beloved local artists, and top-notch tribute acts, there’s something for everyone,” says Alex Nixon, White Rock BIA Executive Director.

“We're excited to once again bring world-class entertainment to our City by the Sea.”

In December 2018, powerful winds cut the 470-metre-long White Rock pier in half during a massive storm.  A person was stranded on one side of the pier, and crews were sent in to rescue him.

The popular tourist attraction re-opened in August 2019, welcoming back throngs of tourists to the iconic promenade.

In September, a local catering company will try to break the Guinness World Record for the longest charcuterie board at the pier
