Have you ever seen a concrete, marble, metal, or wooden ledge in Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»and wondered why it has metal knobs attached to it every two feet or so? They're there to prevent people from skateboarding there, and they were first introduced to Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»architecture in the late 1990s.

They're known as skate stoppers, and while there are many different manufacturers the most well-known is the Skatestoppers brand.

A form of so-called "hostile architecture," they effectively prevent skateboarders from sliding and grinding on the ledges, warding off property damage.
