Celebrate autumn with a bustling street festival on top of Burnaby Mountain this weekend.
Some streets of the Simon Fraser University campus will be blocked off to traffic for the return of a two day family-friendly event that brings people from across Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»together and celebrate the onset of fall with live music, performers, food vendors and more.
After a successful first , the StreetFest, jointly organized by SFU, UniverCity Community Association and the Simon Fraser Student Society, is coming back for its fifth year celebrations.
On Friday, Sept. 15 and Saturday, Sept. 16, the roads: Cornerstone Mews and Science Road will be closed to let the community gather car-free and revel in all sorts of entertainment and photo ops.
Think food trucks, musicians, bouncy castles, climbing walls and more.
According to a news release, more than 60 vendors — including BC Lions, Whitecaps FC, the Gaming Stadium, Bak’d Cookies and other local artisans — are slated be at the event.
At the opening ceremony on Sept. 15 at 11 a.m., political dignitaries: MP Terry Beech, MLA Katrina Chen, acting Mayor Maita Santiago and SFU president Joy Johnson, will kick-off the 2023 StreetFest celebrations at Town & Gown Square and Cornerstone Mews.
The event, featuring some local talent — including The Burnouts, — is organized with support from Fraser International College, the City of Burnaby and Tourism Burnaby.
Popular greater Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»food trucks like Tokyo Katsu, Shameless Buns, Street Dogs and Little Ooties Mini Donuts will be on-site to provide guests with the tastiest food options.
Guests can also participate in a silent auction, which is conducted with the help of United Way. All proceeds go to the food pantry on campus, which helps feed food insecure students.
Or watch a free movie (Back to the Future) at Images Theatre and attend a Chemistry demonstration in front of Trottier Observatory — who doesn't want to learn how to make ice cream?
