I Need A Miracle By Mark DeLong
LES Gallery 1879 Powell St. Vancouver
March 13th - April 21st | Opening Reception Friday March 20th, 7:00 - 11:00pm
A show of large ink on paper works, painting, ceramics and sculpture and launch of recently released, The Only Clock On The Ship, by Mark DeLong published by TV Books.
As one of several talented, young, Vancouver-based artists working in the territory between comics and contemporary art, DeLong has established himself as a draftsman to be reckoned with. Trawling the sewers of the pop unconscious, his collagistic images present absurd and sometimes unsettling recombinations, polyglot frankensteins composed of obscene characters, kitschy psychedelic environments, and cryptic jokes. Deftly rendering the puerile poetic, DeLong maximizes the aesthetic possibilities of doodle art and the sketchbook-as-zine format, but he also brings a unique and arresting visual sensibility to works both large and small, conveying a degree of focus and ambition that justifies his reputation.
Mark DeLong was Born in 1978 in New Brunswick, Canada, and is self-taught. His work has been displayed at Colette, Paris; Bee Studios, Tokyo; Spencer-Brownstone Gallery, NY; Abel Neue Kunst Gallery, Berlin; Perugi Art Contemporenea, Padova; LES Gallery,Vancouver; Giant Robot,NY; Little Cakes,NY; and Greener Pastures Gallery, Toronto. Delong's art has also appeared in Border Crossings, Canadian Art magazine and Pyramid Power, and his books have been published by Nieves Books, Switzerland and TV Books, New York. Mark Delong is represented by Perugi Art Contemporenea, Italy, TV Gallery, New York, and LES Gallery in Vancouver.
