While her art makes almost everyone uncomfortable, it is no doubt compelling. With creatures that appear torn from the absurd, yet ultimately relatable, they have sparked international acclaim.
And, starting next week, Metro Vancouverites have the chance to explore Curious Imaginings, Patricia Piccinini's ground-breaking immersive sculpture exhibition.
For the first time ever, the renowned Australian artist is taking her hyper-realist, fantastical creatures outside of the museum and into our backyard.
Piccinini says that her should “challenge us to explore the social impacts of emerging bio-technology and our ethical limits in an age where genetic engineering and digital technologies are already pushing the boundaries of humanity.”

The exhibit transforms a wing of 18 rooms in Strathcona’s historic Patricia Hotel, and transports viewers into the hyper-realist dimension.
The intimate hotel setting for Curious Imaginings will empower visitors to personally consider questions posed by the exhibition, including the promises and consequences of genetic research and human interference.
