Comedian Ed Hill grew up in Coquitlam. On Oct. 15, 2024, he will release his last TV special, called "Stupid Ed."

The last televised special by a comedian who grew up in Coquitlam drops next week.

Ed Hill, a graduate of Pinetree Secondary School, will be out with his second and final installation of his series on Tuesday, Oct. 15.

Presented by Comedy Dynamics, Stupid Ed is an hour-long special that was filmed in a mental health clinic.

It follows his live show on off-off Broadway in New York City in April 2023 at the Tank Theatre, and his first special titled Candy & Smiley, a tribute to his parents.

Stupid Ed premieres on Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Dish, DirectTV, Spectrum and Google Play.

In the show opening, Hill is asked by a “counsellor” what he’s been up to recently.

Not a lot, he jokes.

“I’ve been spending a lot of time with family because it’s sometimes good to be around anxiety. I learn a lot. I learn that family has no boundaries.”

Besides familial stresses, Hill also humorously broaches topics like his childhood, health, faith, societal expectations and racism.

The album version of Stupid Ed will be released on Friday, Oct. 18 via SiriusXM, Spotify, Apple Music and Pandora.

Hill, who emigrated from Taiwan at the age of 10, has a master’s degree from Simon Fraser University.

An award-winning touring comedian who last month appeared in the lineup in Coquitlam, Hill is also a podcast creator and presenter.
