Located on Granville Island, 1318 Cartwright Street to be exact, False Creek Community Center runs a low profile, in the winter months that is. Usually, Granville Island is a little hard to get to, but if you walk instead of driving, it can be a fun little day excursion... Plus you won't get all stressed out doing the parking loop, which can be a little maddening...

Also, the is a fantastic way to take out of towners to the market. With departures from Science World, Plaza of Nations, Yaletown and near the Aquatic Center, there's always a place to grab the Aquabus and head on over to get some nice little things on Granville Island. Floating is funner than driving!

Although small, False Creek Community Center is a well run and clean little community center. It has very good workout facilities with everything you need. The clientele are random and run from people with small kids to the elderly who are eager for an early morning stroll on a treadmill.

In the community center, there is a pottery studio (great for taking classes on how to make your dad a mug for father's day...), a dance studio, a wicked gym, some public pool tables (I love that... I've never seen a free pool table before), and drop in internet for those who don't have it at home...

Outside the community center are public tennis courts, which are usually pretty busy... but it still looks like a fun place to play.

False Creek Community Center's time to shine though is in the late spring and summer, where the water parks open up and the playgrounds are gonzo with kids. Seriously, in July, it looks like the kid bomb went off, but in a good way. There are changerooms and plenty of washrooms, so the place has the facilities a plenty. It's a great place to kick back in the sun, drink coffee and eat those rad donuts from the market... then maybe run through the sprinklers and get a little wet.

Who knows right?

On Canada Day, the place is a great place to go and get your face painted and bask in that Canada is Awesome vibe that needs to come out a bit more often.

Check it the next time you're in the neighborhood!
