This week, in my Community Center quest, I went and checked out the .
Located at 6260 Killarney Street, Killarney Community Center is one of those centers that I'd heard about, but never seen.
Don't be fooled by the mess. Even though the center is surrounded by construction, most of the center is still open for business.
The highlight (so far) for the community center is the pool, which is an all around family pool. Lap pools for swimming seriously, slides and a beach area for the kids, hot tub for kicking back, and a wicked sauna for sweating out the plague that seems to be going around, the pool is enough in itself to go check the center out.
But there's more.
For fitness facilities, everything is clean and looks brand new. Surrounded by windows, the workout area is great. Lots of bikes and treads looking out to a large field. On a rainy day, you can pretend that you're running across a nice dry field, if you feel like it that is. There's also weights and all that, and when I went, there was a good mixture of all sorts of people (that's what I love about community centers... variety of clientele...) workin and burnin and runnin and sweatin... No attitude.
The ice arena is under construction for renewal, but should be done (I figure) in time for the Olympics...
And once that's done, Killarney will be another Ace in Vancouver's growing awesome Community Center arsenal.
Check it, cause it's a high 5 for sure!
