Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Coastal Health has reported an outbreak of COVID-19 at Mount Saint Joseph Hospital.

The health authority added the outbreak to its Facility Outbreak Bulletin, which was updated today.

Restrictions were imposed at Mount Saint Joseph Hospital, located at 3080 Prince Edward Street in Vancouver, on Monday, Jan. 11.

The number of patients affected at this time is unknown.

What is an outbreak?

VCH writes that "Outbreaks occur when infected people, including patients, staff, volunteers, contracted workers and visitors, come to our hospitals and others become infected."

The medical health officer determines when an outbreak will be declared. Generally, an outbreak is declared if three or more cases involving patients and/or staff occur within a designated time frame and in a specific area or unit.
