Employees at Shoppers Drug Mart stores in Vancouver, Surrey test positive for COVID-19

Workers at two Shoppers Drug Mart stores in Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­have recently tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Workers at two Shoppers Drug Mart stores in Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­have recently tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Loblaw Companies Ltd, the parent company of Shoppers Drug Mart, Real Canadian Superstore, and the No Frills grocery store chain provided updates to its  on Jan. 12. 

Staff at the following stores are affected:

  • Shoppers Drug Mart, 2330 Kingsway, Bldg. 1, Vancouver: The last day the team member worked was on Jan. 7.
  • Shoppers Drug Mart, 18677 Fraser Hwy, Surrey: The last day the team member worked was on Jan. 10.

Loblaw also indicates that workers at a Shoppers Drug Mart in Prince George and its Real Canadian Superstore location in Kamloops are also newly confirmed to have tested positive for the virus. 

On Monday, Jan. 11, Loblaw added an additional Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­case to its ongoing listings:

  • Michael's No Frills, 5501 204th Street Unit 119, Langley: The last day the two infected team members both worked was on Jan. 8.

Sobeys, Inc., which is the parent company of grocery chains Safeway and Thrifty Foods here in British Columbia, also track store and franchise employee cases on its website. Its last update was for new cases on Jan. 9, affecting workers at Safeway stores in Richmond and Surrey.

B.C. passes grim 1,000 COVID-19 deaths mark

As of Monday, there have been 1,010 individuals who have lost their lives to the coronavirus in B.C. since the first death was recorded on March 9.

Reporting on new case counts in the province for the weekend, Public Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix indicated there were 1,475 new cases identified in B.C. Of those, in the Lower Mainland there were 287 new cases in Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­Coastal Health and 736 in Fraser Health. For that same reporting period officials indicated there were 22 new deaths.
