Wildlife alert issued after grizzly sightings near Squamish

A grizzly bear alert has been issued by the District of Squamish and the Conservation Officer Service after two area sightings Wednesday evening.

A grizzly bear alert has been issued by the District of Squamish and the Conservation Officer Service.

Authorities say there were two grizzly sightings Wednesday evening.

鈥淭he sightings occurred in the area along the confluence of the Mamquam and Squamish Rivers and south along the Squamish River dike and estuary,鈥 reads a Facebook post from the District.

鈥淎t this time, the area will not be closed but the location and situation is being monitored very closely and updates will be provided as new information becomes available.鈥

Conservation officers are asking people to be cautious when passing through the area.

鈥淒ogs must be on leash and it is advised that people do not bike or run in the area. Do not walk alone,鈥 the District release says.
