Orphaned Wildlife Rehabilitation Society has shared a video of a successful rescue of a bald eagle from a water treatment settling pond in Richmond back in August.
“The young bird landed in a water treatment settling pond and his feathers soon became waterlogged with sludge and was unable to take flight,” stated a Facebook post from OWL.
OWL staff and volunteers came up with a rescue plan and received assistance from Iona Island wastewater treatment plant workers and Richmond firefighters.
“With two teams of staff and volunteers from OWL, water treatment staff, and the fire department we put our rescue into action,” the post read. “As you can see in the video it took a few attempts for it to successfully bring the bird to land but it worked!”
A longer version of the video notes the bald eagle was released in September.
