V.I.A.'s Weatherhood is predicting nearly 50 mm of rain to accumulate by Saturday night, Feb. 22, and more than 30 mm by Sunday.
Areas set to experience the heavy showers will be in the downtown core, Granville Island and Kitsilano.
The same conditions are expected for Vancouver's western and eastern neighbourhoods like Jericho, Mount Pleasant, Trout Lake and Strathcona.
However, Hastings-Sunrise may see a little more rain tomorrow than other communities as Weatherhood forecasts more than 55 mm will fall.
Neighbourhoods like UBC, False Creek, Dunbar and River District may get their fair share of rain, but in the amount of nearly 40 mm on Saturday and 25 mm by Sunday.
Winds will vary by location, but residents by the water will get caught in west or northwest gusts up to 15 km/h.
Temperatures in Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»will hover around 10 C for the daily high and overnight low. Communities to the east and south parts of the city may reach as high as 12 C at day's peak.
Currently, Weatherhood has downtown as the warmest Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»community at 9 C, Strathcona the coldest at 5 C, Stanley Park the wettest at 27 mm of rainfall, and Southlands the windiest at 15.5 km/h.
Extreme weather shelters open this weekend
Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»has issued an extreme weather alert as a result of the expected rain, meaning extreme weather shelters will open for the weekend.
Shelters are activated when rainfall of at least 50 mm of rain is expected in a 24-hour period, according to the city's shelter and winter response strategy.
The following shelter spaces will remain :
Directions Youth Services Centre
- Hours of operation: 10 p.m. to 8 a.m.
- Will provide overnight accommodation to 10 individuals (ages 13-24, all genders served)
Aboriginal Front Door
- Hours of operation: 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.
- Entrance at 205 East Hastings St.
- Will provide overnight accommodation to 34 individuals (ages 19 and older; couples welcome)
The Salvation Army Belkin House
- Hours of operation: 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.
- Will provide overnight accommodation to 25 individuals (ages 19 and older)
- 18 men and seven (7) women
OPS Overnight EWR Shelter
- Hours of operation: 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.
- Access via front entrance
- Will provide overnight accommodation to 20 individuals (ages 19 and older)
Commercial-Hastings EWR
- Hours of operation: 8:30 p.m. to 7:15 a.m.
- Site entrance is through the front gate
- Will provide overnight accommodation to 15 individuals (ages 19 and older)
Kiwassa Neighbourhood House EWR Shelter
- Hours of operation: 8:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.
- Site entrance is on the right side of the building (East facing)
- Dinner, breakfast, and snacks served.
- Will provide overnight accommodation to 20 individuals (ages 19 and older)
Marpole Neighbourhood House EWR Shelter
- Hours of operation: 9:30 p.m. to 7 a.m.
- Site entrance is through courtyard door (South facing)
- Will provide overnight accommodation to 30 individuals (ages 19 and older)
The Nest
- Hours of operation: 8 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.
- Entrance at white gate. Ring buzzer for access.
- Will provide overnight accommodation to 20 individuals (ages 19 and older; transgender, gender diverse and two-spirit people only)
