Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»weather: Will spring be warmer and drier overall?

April is coming in like a lamb...but will it stay that way?

April and May 2025 in Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»are forecast to include above-average temperatures and drier conditions.

Metro Vancouverites can likely look forward to warmer-than-average temperatures and sunshine for the remainder of spring.

Environment Canada has updated its spring 2025 forecast for the Lower Mainland, displaying higher confidence that the region can expect above-average temperatures and drier conditions in April and May.

Previously, the department's climate models didn't show a clear signal for the season, with forecast confidence waning heading into May. Now, they also predict that June will see warmer-than-usual temperatures and drier conditions.

Meteorologist Chris Doyle tells V.l.A. the warm and dry prediction follows a wetter but warmer March.

Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»International Airport (YVR) recorded a mean temperature of 7.6 C, compared to the typical 6.7 C.

YVR also recorded 132.3 mm of precipitation, representing 124 per cent of the seasonal average (106.4 mm).

Doyle notes that the significant precipitation was partly thanks to two atmospheric rivers, one on March 8 and 9 and the other on March 23 and 24, each drenching the region.

The Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»weather forecast could include more rainfall

The meteorologist notes that the warmer, drier prediction for the remainder of spring and the first month of summer doesn't rule out the possibility of more wet weather events; they only offer a broad overview of the monthly averages.

Spring is also a dynamic season capable of producing cold or very warm weather. Thunderstorms are more likely as ground surfaces heat up and cold fronts pass overhead, creating an unstable atmosphere.

Doyle adds that the Pacific Ocean tends to modify the influence of weather trends in coastal areas, such as Metro Vancouver.
