Breathtaking full flower moon to illuminate Metro Âé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³»­skies

Sky-watchers can see May flowers illuminated by a full moon near the midway point of the month. 

The moon will appear at its fullest in Metro Vancouver on , according to timeanddate.com. It is most commonly referred to as the "full flower moon" across North America. 

According to the : "The May full Moon marked a time of increasing fertility, with temperatures warm enough for safely bearing young, a near end to late frosts, and plants in bloom." It notes that Native peoples would give distinctive names to each reoccurring full moon to mark the change of seasons. Many of these names arose when Native Americans first interacted with colonists.

 adds that the April full moon also goes by other names, including the Full Sprouting Grass Moon, the Egg Moon, and the Full Fish Moon.

Environment Canada calls for above-average temperatures this May in the Metro Âé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³»­weather forecast, meaning evening temperatures may be slightly warmer for staying outdoors to view the lunar event. However, the precipitation forecast is unclear, so you don't bank on dry conditions.

When can I spot a supersized moon in Metro Vancouver

Metro Vancouverites looking to see a supermoon won't spot one in the spring or summer. 

The next one is scheduled to illuminate local skies in Âé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³»­on , according to timeanddate.com.

The October full moon will also be considered the Harvest Moon because it falls closest to the autumnal equinox on Sept. 22 (some years it occurs in September). 

Two other supermoons will dazzle local skies on Nov. 4 and Dec. 5. 

A full moon is considered a supermoon because it appears roughly 15 per cent brighter and seven per cent bigger due to its proximity to Earth. 

 notes that astronomers usually refer to supermoons as perigean full moons, a term that simply refers to the moon being "near earth."
