Wind warnings are the new normal these days in the lower mainland, and today is no exception. Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for Metro Vancouver, including Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, Coquitlam, Maple Ridge, Surrey, Langley, Richmond, Delta, West Vancouver, and North Vancouver.
While the day may kick off on the calm side, southeast winds near 70 km/h are due in this evening, thanks to an intense front arriving on the coast later this day. Once the front moves inland tonight, we can expect those winds to ease and shift into "gusty southerlies," says Environment Canada.
As always, winds of these speeds can toss stuff around and there's the potential for damage, injury, and fallen branches.
Vancouver's forecast calls for some morning rain, followed by a mostly cloudy day before the rain moves in this afternoon. Rain hangs on most of this week, with temps around 9-10C in the city. We get a bit of a break Friday, then back to rains on the weekend, with cooler temps, around 5C, according to Environment Canada.
