Parts of Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»could see 10-15 cm of snowfall Monday

A new Pacific storm is rolling into the Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»area Monday afternoon and evening, and while for many of us that means heavy rainfall to break the lull of this weekend's sunshine, for other communities it could mean more snow.

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for portions of Metro Vancouver, including Burnaby, New Westminster Coquitlam, Maple Ridge, North Vancouver, and West Vancouver, as well as the Fraser Valley.

The warning issued at 8:19 a.m. Monday expands the area of coverage as well as the anticipated snowfall accumulation totals from a warning issued several hours earlier by the national weather agency.

"Over the North Shore, northeast sections of Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»and city of Vancouver, especially over higher terrain, wet snow will taper off to a few rain showers or flurries before Tuesday morning. Total accumulation of 10 to 15 cm are possible over higher terrain," cautions Environment Canada in their snowfall warning.

Similarly, in Fraser Valley communities such as Abbotsford, Hope, and Chilliwack, snow mixed with rain overnight will continue into Tuesday morning before turning into midday showers later that day. The Fraser Valley could also see about 5 to 10 cm of snow tonight.

In Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»and other surrounding municipalities not receiving a snowfall warning today rain is on the menu. We can expect to see showers begin this morning and continue well into the night and Tuesday. Environment Canada is calling for about 10 to 15 mm of rainfall for this Pacific frontal storm.
