A special weather statement is in effect for the Lower Mainland as the Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»weather forecast calls for a cold and blustery week ahead.
Environment Canada notes that the region will see a transition to colder conditions as arctic air reaches the coast by Wednesday night. The forecast notes that most coastal communities will see temperatures drop below the freezing mark, and that blustery outflow winds will yield cold wind chill values.
Arctic air will deepen as the week continues, and wind chill values are expected to dip down to -5 to -10.
The special weather statement is in effect for:Â
- Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»- central including the City of Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Burnaby and New Westminster
- Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»- North Shore including West Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»and North Vancouver
- Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»- northeast including Coquitlam and Maple Ridge
- Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»- southeast including Surrey and Langley
- Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»- southwest including Richmond and Delta
People working and spending time outside are reminded to dress warmly and in layers, preferably with a wind-resistant outer layer. Travellers are encouraged to add winter emergency kits to their vehicles which include a blanket, extra clothes and boots.
