A very moist Pacific frontal system has stalled over the region today resulting in continued heavy rainfall for Metro Vancouver, explains Environment Canada.

As the first major storm of 2019 pounds the lower mainland, we can expect to see rainfall totals from 50 mm in the southern area to 90 mm close to mountains, according to the weather agency.

Drivers are reminded to take caution on wet roads. Flash flooding can happen in this kind of storm event. Meanwhile, in the nearby Sea to Sky corridor, lists the risk rating as "high" and asks would-be backcountry roamers to "avoid all avalanche terrain on Thursday" in the region.

There is no relief from this storm expected until tonight, however rain remains in the forecast every single day for the next week for Vancouver.
