Hunter Jarratt is passionate about protecting plants and animals native to British Columbia from the threat of invasive species.
Jarratt is in the Natural Resource Protection program at Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Island University. He became inspired to tackle invasive species after volunteering to remove invasive scotch broom in Campbell River with the .
His favourite ecosystems are Garry Oak meadows, one of the rarest in British Columbia.
“There is only an estimated around 5% left in near natural condition,” he told Glacier Media.
Garry Oak ecosystems are incredibly bioverse, he says, supporting meadow flowers, including the common camas, chocolate lily and fawn lily.
