A quick history of some of the first Black settlers in B.C.

Freed slaves, they moved here from the USA in 1858

A few years back I had the pleasure of meeting and interviewing Naidine Sims, a great granddaughter of some of the first Black settlers - freed slaves - who moved to B.C. in 1858.

The 95-year-old drove our film crew to the Starks' property, and shared their story.

Naidine passed away a few months later, before our piece was released. But we were able to send her a copy to watch with her family, days before she died.

Here is a small piece of Black history from B.C.

We'll bring you more in the future.
