A renowned Metro Vancouver artist is supporting Canadian journalism through her new artwork.

To celebrate (Oct. 3 to 9),  has collaborated with  to create a limited-edition, signed piece.

The print, titled Champions, is the hero item in the Champion The Truth capsule collection, which also includes a softcover journal.

Champions portrays three characters who represent journalists and readers "as well as multiple landmarks from across the country to celebrate the diversity of people, places, and perspectives in Canada."

The piece highlights the essential service newspapers provide and the importance of independent Canadian news media.

Volo's decision to support local news across the country was inspired by conversations she had with industry stakeholders.

"Canada has all kinds of newspapers, every town has a newspaper and I just think it's great to acknowledge that it's still there; the information is there, let's just access it," explains Volo.

Born in Kazakhstan, Volo immigrated to Canada as a child and grew up in the Tri-Cities. She is known for her massive murals and distinct style, which draws from folklore, multiculturalism, and identity.

Her work often sparks dialogue and empowers action, while shedding light on important social issues.

"News unites our country together and I felt like this piece is kind of a stepping stone for that," she adds.
