When planning our trip, the decision of where to stay was an easy one to make as was what attracted me to the area in the first place. Last season when I was researching trips to take with BC Ferries I found package which is $141 per person and includes a night's stay AND round trip ferry travel.

Welcome to the latest in our Super, Neighbours series of blog posts where we highlight incredible travel destinations in British Columbia! In I took you on the road getting there, from Tsawwassen to Victoria, down the Malahat Highway and in to this tiny, peaceful community on the East side of Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Island.

If you reserve just a round trip ferry the price comes in at a little over $200. Add a night's stay and a trip that should clock in at around $400 ends up being less than $300. I'm not sure how this works in any way but in your favour and I'm happy to introduce you to a way for you to save money with BC Ferries you might not have known about: .

Package deal or not, is a wonderful place to call home while visiting Cowichan Bay. It's located at the top of the main shopping strip, and you can walk to the end of the community and back in about 20 minutes. You won't want to walk it in that time though, because you'll be busy visiting the local shops, eating at all the different seafood spots and exploring the docks and the ocean life that surrounds the place. Upon your return after a day of cruising the area, below is your view. Not bad.

Perhaps it was my pre-Island-time rush, but I hadn't realized that the "Suites" in the name "Oceanfront Suites" indicated that every room in the place is more than a room but an actual suite, much like the one you might live in. When you book here you can expect a separate bedroom, a living room, dining room AND a full kitchen. is more about that and below is my favourite room in the suite we stayed in, mostly because I was able to slow down and read an entire book (incidentally, Malcolm Gladwell's ) while hanging out on the couch.

Beyond the rooms (which include free Wifi), the resort has a pool and fitness centre, free parking, a business centre and a wonderful on-site restaurant called . Also, if you're not traveling over on the ferry and decide you want to drive your own boat over to the Island they offer free moorage at their dock for guests.

Thanks again to BC Ferries for getting us onto the island and for the folks at Oceanfront Suites for hosting! Visit to learn more and stay tuned as in the next post I'll be touring you around the Cowichan Bay community.

Lastly, listen to this feature I did below with Mike Eckford on CKNW all about Cowichan Bay. We chat about Oceanfront Suites (and some of their other visitors!) at the 7:45 mark.
