What's Awesome in Canada This Week?

Our goal is simple: we let people know about all of the awesome things that make their Canadian cities great, despite the bad. I'm the founder of this network and each week in this What's Awesome post I bring you the top stories from each of our properties, giving you access to the best of our content all in one place.

If we fall off of the delicious, chocolate-covered, candy-coated wagon once in a while, it’s not the end of the world, however. Arm yourself with knowledge and personal motivation to get back on the healthy train to battle that belly.

 

A great new book has come out by Award-winning Toronto photojournalist and activist Jo-Anne McArthur. We Animals includes over 200 pages of 100 photographs as well as documentation from McArthurs journey exposing the cruelties the world has forced upon animals.

Atop a rooftop in downtown Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­lies the greenhouse headquarters of , North America’s first ever  farm. What’s incredibly impressive about vertical farming is that you can take a 6,000 square foot area (such as a parkade) and sustainably produce food equivalent to around that of a 5 acre farm. This could solve a lot of problems.

While the brisk weather we’ve been having has not been kind to powder hounds like myself, conditions have been conducive to another winter activity popular in these parts. Rolling up to Nita Lake this past monday afternoon, parking was in short supply as locals young and old flocked to play a bit of pond hockey on Nita Lake.
