Everything you need to know about the new direct route from Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­to Singapore

Prices start for hundreds of dollars less than the cost of similar tickets on the route.

Canada's flag carrier will launch the first flight on its new direct route connecting Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­and Singapore this week. 

Air Canada held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­International Airport (YVR) on Tuesday, April 2 to mark the launch of the new service to Singapore’s Changi International Airport (SIN). 

The new route is the only non-stop flight option connecting Canada and Singapore. 

The airline will operate flights on the route four times weekly, with service departing from Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. It will depart from Singapore on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday (see second slide).

Air Canada says the schedule will allow for connections from Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­across North America and Singapore to key destinations across Southeast Asia, South India, and Western Australia with Star Alliance and codeshare partner Singapore Airlines.

The new flight will be operated on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft featuring three cabins of service, including Signature Class with lie-flat seats, Premium Economy and Economy Class.

Singapore's airport consistently ranks as  and it is known for having efficient customs processing. 

How much will the new direct Air Canada flight from Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­to Singapore cost?

Prices on the new direct are among the cheapest options between the two cities, with prices starting at under $1,500. The cheapest tickets on the route typically start for over $1,300, although there are a handful of $1,200 options in October. 

Air Canada's flights are nonstop and the other cheap tickets in the same price range will involve at least one stopover. 

The Canadian carrier's prices dip to their lowest point in September but several low-cost options are available throughout the year.

For example, a flight that departs Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­on Wednesday, Sept. 11 and returns from Singapore on Tuesday, Sept. 24 costs  $1,467. This price is $664 cheaper than usual (see slides three and four), according to Google Flights.
