It is about this time of year that I begin to grumble about winter. When I begin to fantasize hard about warmth and tank tops, shoes other than heavy booths and the kiss of sun on my shoulders. But it is also the time of year that it is just too early to dream of summer. So I go searching for something to love about winter. For although she is long, inhospitable, icy and dark, she does have her own particular beauty.

A British style snack bar has opened up in the heart of Parkdale by two long time childhood friends and familiar faces to the food/bar scene, Steve Mckeon (Wrongbar) and Cameron Hutton (The Drake Hotel). The establishment they’ve opened up is the cozy and casual Small Town Food Co. (1263 Queen St. W).

I write to you about a problem that threatens — more with each passing day — to burden the minds of the local populace with terribly salty, sun-drenched distraction: the problem of the beach.

It is around this time of the year when shops begin to flaunt what can only responsibly be considered summer stock: sundresses, flip-flops, short shorts. For months to come, these enticing items might only be donned under layers of flannel and Gore-Tex, and yet, with the appearance of luminous mirages of spaghetti-strapped tank tops...
