Swoop, WestJet's discount carrier, has announced that it will suspend all of its international and transborder flights this Sunday.
Effective Sunday, March 22 at midnight, the suspension of Swoop's international and transborder flights will be in place until May 31, 2020.
In a release, Swoops states that the action follows Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's announcement imposing travel restrictions for all flights entering Canada to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
The carrier will start repatriation flights on March 23 for all our its travellers that are currently in the United States, Mexico or Jamaica. At present, Swoop reports that it has arranged 15 flights over 3 days to bring the more than 2,300 travellers home.

"We’ve introduced Fair Fares and ALL of our domestic and northbound flights from the U.S. and Mexico to ≤ $199 CAD one-way, all-in," states Swoop.
"We want Canadians to get where they need to go in this situation. All new bookings will include ModiFly for free which will allow a one-time change of the time and/or date of your flight per direction. Existing bookings that are more than 7 days from departure can add ModiFly for free in Manage My Bookings. Travellers scheduled to travel to the U.S., Mexico or Jamaica on or before May 31, 2020, are being contacted directly by email with the option to rebook or cancel their existing itinerary for Swoop Credits."
