Vancouverites can fly across the country for $39 including all taxes and fees via a new route offered by a major Canadian low-cost airline.
Swoop, WestJet's discount carrier, has announced increased frequency on several of its most popular routes in western and eastern Canada, including several options out of the Lower Mainland.
Locals will be able to fly on a new route from the Abbotsford International Airport (YXX) to London International Airport (YXU) in Ontario for as little as $39 including all taxes and fees.
The inaugural flight to London departs Abbotsford on May 19 and the airline will offer a couple of flights weekly after that. Starting in late June, the airline will increase the frequency to four flights weekly.
“The London International Airport is thrilled to announce non-stop service to beautiful Abbotsford, British Columbia with Swoop this summer," said Scott McFadzean, President and CEO of the London International Airport.
“London and the surrounding region continue to look for more exciting destinations directly from YXU’s easy and comfortable airport. We’re looking forward to the spring and the launch of Abbotsford service with Swoop.”
London is known as the "Forest City" because it was a "small village in the middle of the forest back in the day," according to the airline.

While the start of meteorological spring kicked off on March 1, Swoop notes that "winter is not over" in the Great White North. To keep Canadian buns toasty, the airline has extended its seasonal service to popular Mexican hotspots.
Residents of the Lower Mainland can escape the cooler-than-average start to spring with twice-weekly flights from Abbotsford to Puerto Vallarta (PVR) for as little as $119 one-way and one flight weekly from Abbotsford to Los Cabos (SJD) for as little as $109 one-way.
Swoop adds that locals will have more options to fly with a 67 per cent increase in flights operating out of YXX in Abbotsford.
