Spring break is a notoriously expensive time of year to travel. With that being said, there are a number of places that offer plenty of fun on a budget.
Have a look at our round-up of the cheapest places to travel to from Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»this year.
Spring Break Travel Deals
Los Angeles
While you can generally travel to Los Angeles for under $300 CAD throughout the year, the cost will increase over spring break - and by about double the regular price. With that being said, if you are able to pull your kid(s) out of school a couple of days early then you will save a great deal of money on each ticket. For example, a flight leaving on Thursday, March 14 and returning on Thursday, March 21 costs a total of $339 CAD including all taxes and fees. If you wait until Saturday to leave, however, then the lowest ticket costs $495 CAD total per person - yikes!
Maui
Are you looking to travel to Hawaii over spring break? If you travel to Honolulu you'll be looking at paying around $800 CAD for a return trip including taxes and fees. With that in mind, a round-trip fare from Maui costs significantly less, but you'll still enjoy beautiful beaches, warm weather and a plethora of fun activities. A return ticket to Maui from Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»costs around $550 CAD including taxes and fees.
New York City
Not unlike Los Angeles, tickets to New York will be significantly cheaper when booked before the start of spring break. So, if you are able to pull your kids out of school early, a flight departing on Wednesday, March 13 and returning on Thursday, March 21 costs a total of $364 CAD including all taxes and fees. On the other hand, if you must wait, you can still score a pretty cheap deal on departing on Monday, March 8 and returning on March 26 with WestJet and Delta airlines for $478 CAD.
Puerto Vallarta
Puerto Vallarta offers a number of exciting activities for the whole family. What's more, there are a number of flights leaving for this breathtaking destination that cost under $500 CAD including taxes and fees during the spring break period. With that being said, a number of these flights may include an extra stopover or two, but if you are comfortable with the extra stops it will save you big bucks.
Tofino
Tofino is home to the best surfing in the country, as well as some breathtaking ocean vistas. Not a fan of water sports? This stunning locale is also a mesmerizing place to watch mother nature’s power and glory. Storm watching is a spectator sport that allows you to soak in the awe-inspiring beauty of the wild west from the comfort of a cozy suite. You can opt to take the ferry to Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Island to keep travel extremely light on your wallet, but a return ticket will only cost roughly $333 CAD including tax over spring break.
Harrison Hot Springs
Harrison Hot Springs is a great alternative for people visiting from Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»because of its proximity to the city as well as its local offerings. Of course, the area is well-known for its world-renowned hot springs pools, which offer a rejuvenating and healing experience. While it offers a refreshing change from the hustle and bustle of the city, it is located within an hour-and-a-half drive from downtown Vancouver. What’s more, there are a number of things to see and do with the whole family.
Whitehorse
Whitehorse is the largest city in the Yukon and home to a number of spectacular aurora borealis viewing lodges. Although they can’t guarantee that you’ll see the vivid astral display ten times out of ten, your odds are quite high during peak season. In addition, you may also enjoy visiting hot-springs, dog-sledding, wildlife watching, ice-fishing and much more. A flight from Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»to Whitehorse is only about two hours long and usually costs roughly $350 CAD total with tax included direct with Air North. However, the spring break return ticket will put the price point around $440 CAD. With that being said, the flight is still direct and offers some flexibility of dates.
Las Vegas
Las Vegas may not be as cheap as it is throughout the rest of the year during spring break, but it offers a substantially cheaper option during the holiday. For example, many warm, fun-filled locales cost between $450 - $550 CAD for the plane ticket alone. You'll have to put money on top of that cost for hotel, which can often double the price of the tickets. In contrast, Las Vegas offers deals for the same price, but they already include hotel.
