PHOTO ESSAY: On the Road to Jones Lake in a 2013 Ford Escape

Welcome to the third volume of our new series, "On the Road to..."! The deal is simple: manufacturers loan us vehicles, then we drive them to sweet locations and shoot photos along the way and share that experience with you.

Today I'm taking you to one of my favourite lakes to go to, just outside of Chilliwack. It's a place that my small car can't make it to, up a forestry road where you need four wheel drive, especially this time of year. Jones Lake, also known as Wahleach Lake, is a BC Hydro reservoir that's attached to a power station way below in the valley that is said to power about 1% of the province with electricity. I went there with the founder of , Nate Friesen, and his Instafamous dog, !

While this isn't a traditional vehicle review series we’ll still be sharing our thoughts on the vehicles we’ll be borrowing. We used the Escape for pretty much exactly what I imagine they hope you'd use it for (TO ESCAPE!), and it was a comfortable escape, to be certain. I synced my phone to it via Bluetooth so I could make calls and listen to music through it, and it had all the bells and whistles that these new tech vehicles have like a handy navigational system and push-button ignition. Before we took it out I spent about 10 minutes kicking my foot under the rear hatch, just to watch the door open and close by itself. "Like a video game" is how it's being described, where if you have your hands full you can simply kick and the hatch opens up. Kick and it closes. is a video/commercial of it in action.
