For residents, fall and winter are prime seasons to travel in BC

This past weekend I took my own advice that I shared in THIS FEATURE I did on CKNW with Mike Eckford a couple weeks back; I drove onto a ferry and hauled my little family over to Galiano Island to enjoy some of that fall awesomeness.

This past weekend I took my own advice that I shared in I did on CKNW with Mike Eckford a couple weeks back; I drove onto a ferry and hauled my little family over to Galiano Island to enjoy some of that fall awesomeness. As you may already know, the fall and winter months are my absolute favourite to travel this great province of ours, especially Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Island and the Gulf Islands. Not only because the tourists are mostly gone, but because the vibe changes and there's just a quality to the air and the environment that I can't quite express which makes for a romantic and amazing adventure every time. Over the next few months what I'm going to do is continue to nail this one over the head in our Super, Neighbours travel series.

If you're not familiar with Super, Neighbours (archive ), it's all about exposing you to places in BC that are less than a day's journey from Vancouver. I head up most of these features and of course I also have my own personal Instagram, and I use it to post a lot of the best photos I shoot while on them (insert shameless "Follow me!" plug: ).

This past weekend that we spent at on Galiano is summed up in these photos below (which can all be found on , of course). We took the quick 10:10AM ferry over on the Friday, checked in to a cabin at this beautiful resort and took time to sit in front of the fire, cook meals, visit the ocean and some friends who live on the island, and we went on the ultimate mushroom foraging expedition near the resort that ended in us hauling back 15 pounds of chanterelles. In a store that amount of these wild would run you about $400, but in the forest all it costs is a little bit of sweat. The return is more than yumminess, it's companionship and fresh air on the trail and in my case it's a first. I'd never been picking before and now I'm hooked!
