Travellers can still score flights from Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»to Tokyo for less than they'd pay to fly to the Maritimes.
Japan Airlines' "basic" carrier, Zipair, revolutionized the nonstop market in 2024 for locals looking to discover the Land of the Rising Sun, introducing fares for less than half the cost of average fares on the route.
Flights from Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»International Airport (YVR) and Tokyo Narita International Airport (NRT) will drop from five nights weekly to four in the last week of October, with the carrier dropping its outbound Tuesday and Friday departures and adding one on Sunday.
The popular route is sold out in September and October's prices remain elevated. However, travellers can find several one-way options from YVR to NRT for under $500 in November and the first week of December (prices nearly double before the holidays and several dates are sold out).
Travellers looking for the best price on a one-way ticket should plan to travel in early 2025. Prices drop under $400 on multiple dates in January and February. For example, a flight departing Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»for Tokyo on Monday, Jan. 20 costs $361 (see slide two).

Travellers will find the best prices on round-trip options in the new year, too. Multiple date combinations from the third week of January through mid-February are just over $700, provided customers book tickets separately (see slide three).
For example, a flight that departs Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»on Monday, Jan. 30, 2025, and returns from Tokyo, on Thursday, Jan. 30, 2025, costs $719 (see slide four).
According to Google Flights, this price is considered "low" for the economy class, or $1,019 cheaper than usual (see slide five).
Travellers looking to fly sooner aren't out of luck. A few options departing in late November cost under $900 round-trip. For example, a flight that departs Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»on Sunday, Nov. 30 and returns from Tokyo, on Thursday, Dec. 5 costs $892 (see slide six).
According to Google Flights, this price is also considered "low" for the economy class, or $1,200 cheaper than usual for this time of year.
