Prices for flights from Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»to Tokyo, Japan have skyrocketed recently, soaring from 2024's low-cost spring offers.
Japan Airlines' "basic" carrier, Zipair, launched its first Canadian route to Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»International Airport (YVR) in March 2024, reducing the cost of direct, nonstop travel to Tokyo Narita International Airport (NRT) by hundreds of dollars.
The airline added additional flights after overwhelming success with its initial ticket sales, increasing its thrice-weekly service to five days over the summer.
Travellers looking for cheap, one-way tickets to the Land of the Rising Sun can find some for under $400 starting in the late summer and early fall.
A flight that departs Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»for Tokyo on Tuesday, Oct. 14 costs $397 when booked through third-party supplier CheapOair or $411 directly with Zipair (see slide two).
Travellers booking through a third party should always read the fine print of their contracts before booking. Some companies have stricter change and cancellation policies than airlines. Also, check reviews for any company before booking, particularly if it is one outside of North America or that does not have a brick-and-mortar location(s).
This price is considered "low" for economy or $471 cheaper than usual, according to Google Flights (see slide three).
Round-trip flights from Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»to Tokyo with Zipair
Travellers looking for low-cost, round-trip options from Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»to Tokyo departing this spring won't find many options. Prices start at an eye-watering $1,400 to over $2,000 in March, while April's starting prices range from over $1,000 to $1,400.
Prices remain steady through May and the rest of summer, although there are a few date combinations with fares under $1,000. Starting in the last week of August, travellers can find tickets for under $900 and then prices drop under $800 in September and October.
A flight departing from Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»on Tuesday, Sept. 9 and returning from Tokyo on Tuesday, Sept. 23 costs $772 booked through CheapOair or $795 directly through Zipair (see slide four).
This price is considered "low" for economy or $787 cheaper than usual, according to Google Flights (see slide five).
