A Swoop FlyDay promotion allows people to from Abbotsford International Airport (YXX) to Edmonton International Airport (YEG) for a steal.

Some already low-cost flights across Canada cost even less today thanks to a sale on some popular routes.

WestJet's soon-to-extinguished budget brand has included a popular flight out of the Lower Mainland in its weekly FlyDay deals round-up on Friday, June 30.

Travellers flying from Abbotsford International Airport (YXX) to Edmonton International Airport (YEG) can enjoy 20 per cent off the base fare for travel between Sept. 6 and Sept. 28.

Other popular routes offered in the sale include Deer Lake, NL to Toronto or Hamilton, ON.

To take advantage of the offer, enter the promotional code FLYDAYS during the checkout. The sale ends at 10:59 p.m. or when quantities sell out.

Swoop's one-way flights to Edmonton from Abbotsford are already a steal at $18.99 including all taxes and fees. But the deal shaves a bit of money off this low-cost price. Further, it helps to book this route in advance, since tickets in the summer don't drop below $50.

Since the base fare is $7.02, you can shave 20 per cent off that ($1.40) off the total ticket price ($18.99). The final price with the promotion applied works out to $17.59.

WestJet announces the dissolution of budget carrier Swoop

Canada's second-largest airline will be calling it quits on its low-cost carrier in the fall, citing fierce market competition. Until that time, however, travellers can take advantage of its cheap flights through the summer season.

Existing Swoop flights and packages won't be affected by the announcement and customers may continue to book tickets. Swoop does not have any bookable flights beyond October 28, as the carrier hasn't published a schedule beyond that date.

WestJet will incorporate Swoop's fleet into its existing flock, giving the hot pink aircraft a blue makeover following the dissolution of the budget brand.
