The mayor made a this morning that the city has released it's revised gameplan for snow removal in 2010/2011, so I poked over to the he provided and had a look at what to expect as well as what they're expecting of us (shovel your walk before 10AM, folks!). When I came across all of the equipment that the city owns for snow removal I scratched my head for a minute, wondering what on earth a "brine tanker" was. Some quick digging brought the answer that it's a sort of salt truck that goes along the separated bike routes and shucks salty brine over them instead of trying to actually shovel them. If you know of any place that sells personal driveway-sized brine tankers then you know exactly what I want for Christmas.
And while we're on the subject of bikes and gifts, I was down at PD's Hotshop on 4th Avenue this past week and did a double take at the Skull Skates BMX cruisers they've got built up. They come with a Limited Edition Skull Skates frame, what looks like a $200 seat as well as some other fancy parts all for only $599. And that's not a sale price. That's just the price that it is. It may not be a commuter that you'd ride to work on a separated bike lane but if you're looking for a Christmas present for yourself this just might be it. Check it out on their web site.
