City council has approved a $500,000 feasibility study for the potential project. The money will come from Burnaby鈥檚 community benefit funds.

鈥(Feasibility study) work to include mapping of environmentally sensitive areas, soils condition with geotechnical analysis, defining constraints of development next to the highway, restrictions of travel modes within Burnaby Regional Park, conflicts with overhead and at-grade hydro infrastructure, underground utilities will be undertaken,鈥 city staff wrote in a report.

The footbridge would ideally connect walking paths in Burnaby鈥檚 three major parks (Burnaby Lake Park, Deer Lake Park and Robert Burnaby Park), according to the staff report.

鈥淚 don鈥檛 know who came up with this idea, but it鈥檚 great,鈥 Coun. Nick Volkow said. 鈥淚鈥檝e had, over the years, a number of people approach me in regard to this very issue. I look forward to the report.鈥
