Name?

Sam Logan.

Tell me about your bike?

I'm a street artist in Gastown, so I built this custom trailer to pull behind my bike. It's a portable studio so I get a workout on the way down to work, which is my favourite part of the day. When I get there the top box rotates to become wider and it has two motorcycle batteries and a converter so I have lights and power. It's just a birdie trailer which is normally meant for children, but because I have more weight than that I put in an angle iron to support the extra weight.

The bike itself is from 1992 and it has been pulling a trailer for that long. I only have one gear at the moment so it could use a little bit of repair but the brakes and tires are good.

When did you create this bike trailer?

Well I was in Stanley Park about 30 years ago using a trailer and it really worked for me. I was looking into a trike for a while but the trailer has been working great for me.

What kind of art do you make?

I have a website that showcases all my art, which is gastownsam.com. It is hard to explain but I have some examples of my art on the side of my trailer which shows the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»landscape from False Creek. My whole business is all in this trailer.

That's great that you can have all of your work with you.

Also that I can incorporate my exercise into my day as opposed to having to fit it in when I get home at the end of the day.

Is this is your full time job then?

This is what I was born to do. I have been painting for more than 40 years now. You have to love art more than money to get involved in this and I count my count my blessings everyday.

Do you paint mostly Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»landscapes then?

A lot of winters I head to Mexico, but I also like to paint the Garibaldi mountains and in Tofino. I was born in Denmark so I have gone back to paint there, and my brother was sent to Bermuda for work so I went there and painted. The energy is different everywhere you go.

It's really great to see someone using their bike as a mode of transportation not only for themselves but for their livelihood.

Well when you look at places like India, trailers have really revolutionized their transportation. If you look on the internet it is amazing the loads people are taking on bikes around the world. We are seeing it more in the city now and you are going to see a lot more of that. It is a great time to be on a bike.
