Over the years I've made a bunch of different blog posts where I run into people doing jobs in public and I ask them what might be considered dumb questions. No question is a dumb one, however, so I've ended up gathering some pretty interesting "How It's Made" stories, which I promise to continue sharing as I come across them:
- Refilling a Skytrain ticketing machine
- Snowblowing bugs out of trees .
- Bumps in the sidewalk repaired .
- BC Hydro literally has the keys to the city .
- Measuring the City's 138,000 street trees .
- Solar powered garbage compactor maintenance .
This weekend as I was riding the seawall to the fireworks I noticed that a lot of the lanes had been recently re-painted, and the leftover shiny glass beads were still hanging around (see the photo below). It reminded me of one of my favourite posts I've done in this vein, where I came across some workers painting traffic lines in Yaletown. is that post which includes an animated GIF of this strangely archaic process which involves one dude following another dude dumping powder on top of a freshly painted line.
