Night owls are in for a detour this weekend.
Highway 1 is set to be closed between the Lynn Valley and Fern Street exits to accommodate overnight demolition of the old Mountain Highway overpass from late Saturday night into the early hours of Sunday morning. Alternate routes are set to be in place from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The new Mountain Highway overpass opened in early April.
The detours are also slated to be in place from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. overnight on Friday and Saturday nights the following week, May 3 and 4.
Neighbours 鈥渕ay be affected by noise caused by demolition equipment.鈥 However, 鈥渆very effort鈥 will be made to complete the work as quickly as possible, according to a release from the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.
Road maintenance crews will be on site to ensure roads are safe but drivers are reminded to slow down and drive with caution, according to a release from the ministry.
The ministry provides updates on closures at DriveBC.ca and through the Twitter handle @DriveBC.
The demolition is part of the $198-million Lower Lynn Improvement Project, which is slated to be complete before the end of 2021.
