#CycleChic Films: Musical Spectrum

So here's our third short film, Musical Spectrum. We chose our subject, DJ and music-maker Shawn Henderson, a.k.a. Bikes, not only because of his name (although, maybe that was part of it), but also because he's a rad guy.

So here's our third short film, Musical Spectrum. We chose our subject, DJ and music-maker Shawn Henderson, a.k.a. Bikes, not only because of his name (although, maybe that was part of it), but also because he's a rad guy.

Shawn grew up in Barrie, Ontario, and hopped on a train to Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»in 2005. He's been producing music since the age of 19 and DJing since 2010. He's based out of the ACME building in Vancouver's DTES, but has toured as far as South Africa. House music is his rhythm of choice.

Shawn's stage name comes from a part-time business he has done for years — salvaging and fixing up old bikes and then finding new owners to love them, or at least ride them.

Our favourite quote from the film:

"Despite the challenges we face in this city, it's good to know that there's a really solid community of people who are supporting one another and helping move things forward."

Here's a summer mixtape Shawn has made for your enjoyment.

But don't be rude. Get to know him here first:

Fun Fact:

The nightclub scenes were shot during a fundraiser for Brian Cameron, a Vancouverite who's currently biking across Canada in support of the Heart and Stroke Foundation. You can visit Cameron's website at .

Next week we’ll release our fourth and final short film, profiling Camille Vega, an independent Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»writer and blogger at BeatRoute and The Hue. Check back here to watch it sometime in the middle of next week.
