We’re fortunate to live in a city that has fantastic riding routes in pretty much every neighbourhood. With so many options available to us, it’s hard to know where to start. To help get your wheels on the road, we asked the team at to highlight what they think are the city’s best routes.
Stanley Park Loop
Vancouver’s iconic multi-use park boasts an easy 10km one-way loop with incredible ocean and mountain views that punctuate the entire ride. This route is ideal for sunrise group training sessions, quick lunch break cruises or lazy weekend rides.
Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»- Horseshoe Bay
Just a stone's throw from the ocean (literally), the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»to Horseshoe Bay route you will take you through Stanley Park, West Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»and across the rolling hills of Marine Drive out to Whytecliff park, where you’ll experience a fantastic view of Howe Sound and the Sunshine Coast.
North Shore Mountains
For the aspiring polka dot jersey winners (mountain climbers), Cypress Mountain and Seymour Mountain each offer challenging routes and rewarding city views. With easy access from downtown through West Vancouver, Cypress Mountain is definitely a crowd-favourite. Once on the mountain, the climb to the top of Cypress is approximately 11km, with 900m in elevation gain. With the weather changing quickly on the West Coast, we recommend taking a jacket for the fun and fast descent.
Some others cycle friendly areas to check out include Deep Cove, Seymour Demonstration Forest, and Belcarra. You can also download , an app that helps new and visiting cyclists find popular routes in any city around the world.
If you're looking for more cycling fun, be sure to check out this weekend's Awesome Grand Prix in Mount Pleasant. In addition to fast paced criterium racing, there will be food trucks, an outdoor beer garden, kids activities and of course, some of the world's best criterium racers.
