BC Ferries cancels all sailings this afternoon and evening due to 'hurricane-force winds'

There's no escaping wherever you are if you'd hoped to take BC Ferries to get you there.

BC Ferries has issued , indicating they have cancelled all sailings for the rest of the day on several routes due to forecast hurricane-force winds.

Service will be suspended starting at 3 p.m. on the following routes: 

  • Swartz Bay-Tsawwassen
  • Duke Point-Tsawwassen
  • Departure Bay-Horseshoe Bay
  • Horseshoe Bay-Langdale
  • Tsawwassen-Southern Gulf Islands
  • Horseshoe Bay-Bowen Island
  • Langdale-Gambier and Keats

Environment Canada has issued for the Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­region Wednesday. 

"A deep low pressure system will cross Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­Island Wednesday night. Ahead of the low, southeast winds of 70 to 90 km/h will develop in Greater Victoria early in the evening and spread to the Southern Gulf Islands, East Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­Island - Duncan to Nanaimo, southern and western sections of Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­and the Sunshine Coast later in the evening," explains the weather agency. 

"Strong winds that may cause damage are expected or occurring," adds Environment Canada.

BC Ferries is urging anyone traveling with them Wednesday to check the  immediately. 

Those customers who have reservations on cancelled sailings ​will be advised that their booking is cancelled, and reservations that are cancelled will have their reservation fees fully refunded.
